HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY – 2016~by Rajendra Padhi

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY – 2016

This is the country not far from God
The temples, churches and the mosques
Wrapped solemnly in love, peace and bliss
Here women are goddess of earth
Men are jewels around their neck.

Religion holds a lamp lighting the soul
Asodo mam sad gamaya
Tamoso mam jyortigamaya
Mrutur mam Amrutagamaya
The holy vision, sanctity and wisdom
Live and let live, purity and truth
From lies to truth
From darkness to light
From death to immortality
In spite of our poverty
I salute my nation, Jai Hind I listen
In the morn when flag sways
In every Independence Day.

Each syllable of the anthem
Reminds of the long battle of gloomy days
The prison birds for a song of freedom
Writhing their wounded wings against iron bars
The road to freedom was full of thorns
Stained their feet in blood.

Where are the people so simple and pure?
Where are the events so pure and perfect?
A cask of fuzzy memory
Are we braggarts verily naked up to neck
In Our poverty
Over population
Corruption
Violence and deceptions!

I look at the children to return to glory
A vow to be fair and true
In mounting spirit they walk in a parade
Shouting Jai Hind, Bharat Mataki jay.
