Arbitrary

Falling Figure c.1957-61 by Francis Bacon 1909-1992

“Falling Figure” by Francis Bacon

here I am unsure
just how I got here
weak spark in the night
fading falling at speed
through a desolate sky
to what temple or tomb

here I am afraid
not of the fall but the
happenstance change
that awaits in the well
of its terminus either
an end or beginning

here I am helpless
no handhold no sightline
uncertain sensation
of tumbling hoping
I still have some choices
before it is finished
