Daily missive breaks into the weekend Sunday the 27th of December.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive breaks into the weekend Sunday the 27th of December.

How much more
Will it take
To bring the house down.
The walls are shaky
The roof sags
Under the weight of
Dirty water
And blown leaves,
A protest against the wind.
The windows
Are open mouths
With broken teeth
Barely a conversation piece
And nothing to see
But a spluttering
Rainbow tinged refraction
Of a candle
On the sill
To help the lost
And lonely find their way
To a cosy Christmas
Somewhere out of the cold.
Not a tableau
You may see
But a truth for many
Who will be happy
For the gift
Of a smile
And a place by the fire.
Hot sparks jumping
Tinder sticks
Burning
Crusty bread toasting.
Creature comforts
Taken for granted
Until you are
Dispossessed
Alone in the dark
Ill and depressed.
Take time to remember
Keep the home fires
Burning.
Give something back
This December.
