WAVES~by Saroj K Padhi

Image may contain: ocean, sky, night, water, outdoor and nature

It’s midnight.
Waves wild like the desires of the young
dash on the serene shore that tries to sleep
like those pariah dogs burying their heads
in warm sand after hours of frolicsome leap-
under balmy beams of a crazy moon
that thinks of the underprivileged and the weak
and in tears of mist onto the earth does weep;
sands wet like eyes of lovers in endless wait
lap up the shells of vague thoughts lying in water deep
before the wind invites lullaby from the distant trees
under which sleeps Krishna, the ‘life guard’ after booze
in tattered T-shirt and torn shawl often to sneeze;
‘Santas in sand art’ dream of better Christmas surprises
when sleepless waves grow wilder and hungrier
to swallow the moon before it has rubbed off our bruises.
