A Winter’s Trap~by Norman Wilson

A Winter’s Trap

Snared in winter’s trap
Swirling on winds between pine trees on mountain caps
Falling, falling, in squalors flanked by ice laden ponds
A washed and unchanged in folly all winter long

Forever lpnging for withdrawal of a cleaving winter’s cold
Captured day after day in keeping of an endless hold
Where berries grow red on the hanging branches from trees
Swaying in a bitter blow from a northern breeze

Rumbling threats strung in breath of winter’s death
As snowbirds sing in harmony openly on cliff’s edge
Steeped with icy slabs of stone jutting out on mountain peaks
With dripping sounds drowned out by the songbirds morning tweets

Chocking back winter’s last gasp of late snowfall
Tersely trying to intimidate spring’s onward crawling thaw
Blatant to a golden laden glitter from the sun’s glow
Aa whispering pines start to shed the last flakes of snow
