Daily missive breaks into the weekend Saturday the 28th of January.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive breaks into the weekend Saturday the 28th of January.

Brave souls
Hidden
In the everyday
Bedrock stories
Overlooked by time
Forgotten bedrooms
With candlewick spreads
Camphor closets
Gentle people
Barely a whisper
Tough as shoe leather
Baking bread
In half light
Reading by candles
Daylight saving.
Waste not want not
A watchword
Before the
Environment
Was an issue of concern
A time when bottles
Were returned
To be used again.
Simple truths
Ignored before
They were ever heard
Polite poverty
And silent loneliness
Is more than a mood
Never a cause-celebre
Too earthy
For the rich palate
But tears still fall
In darkened rooms
Long after midnight
As the radio plays
A sad song
For the night owl
And in the distance
A baby cries
Then laughs with joy
Even in hard times
When pips
Are squeezed until they dry
Real love will refuse
To die.
