Daily missive breaks into the weekend Sunday the 16th of April.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive breaks into the weekend Sunday the 16th of April.

I burn for you
Not like a lover new
To incandescence
A brief flicker
Spluttering with energy
Fizzing with the strength
Of its flame
Until oxygen starvation
Snuffs it out
The smoke spiralling
Into the darkened
Shadows of the room
To discolour the vaulted
Ceiling yellowed
From yesterday’s tobacco
Leaving another stain
On its character.
I can blaze
With the power of a furnace
Enough to smelt iron
Turn base metal into gold
I melt with you
Together we meld
Form a new alloy
Stronger than steel
Free of corrosion
With no erosion
As I get older
I smoulder
Until we meet again
To strike a light
In the darkness
That brightens
Between us
I will burn for you.
