Dilapidation~by Paul F. Lenzi

Painting by Hannah Cohen

inherently human

unstoppable force

numbered cruelest

among mindless

weapons of time

tendent entropy

nature’s own

character flaw

faith and fortitude

pushed out of plumb

intellectual timbers

lean in on themselves

like once rational

now witless bones

lost of all sense of duty

the interdependence

of body and soul

comes apart with a

slow-motion cracking

and creaking

indelicate cries of

abandoned convictions

a sentient structure

with ethical framework

so long in the building

no longer holistic

no longer aesthetic

become a desultory

orphan outlived of its

dreams and ambitions

an eyesore who blights

its own acreage

breathes its own

awaiting replacement

and merciful transport

to tender oblivion
