Daily missive for Wednesday the 26th of April.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Wednesday the 26th of April.

He is a walking man
Everyday
One foot in front of the other
Always on the move
Looking for something
Never sure of what
He might have lost
Or found
On the journey
Every step a mystery
A wonder of broken thoughts
Explanations which often
Come to nought but he tries.
Stepping over rotting trees
Pondering how they died
Marvelling
At the tall elm, straight backed
Standing to attention
Does it really kiss the sky
Brush unruly clouds
Out of the way
To sing a sunlit lullaby
Become mildly irritated by the
Murderous noise of crows
Re-building last year’s nests using
The smallest twigs from
Its finely covered branches
For better shelter
As hungry gulls pull at leaves
Always on a quest for windfall
Anything that has colour
A smell and does not fight
Is food.
When does a tree decide to die
It is a strange conclusion
When still in leaf profusion
Perhaps it is a natural decline
The man nods but briefly
In recognition of the answer
And passes by.
He is a walking man
One foot in front of the other
And if he really has
Somewhere to be
He needs to walk a path
That might yet lead
To his arrival
And ultimate survival.
