lovelorn~by Ayoola Goodness Olanrewaju

lovelorn

like dawn. you put off the sun and
clothe in darkness.

i pick you—a night—with hope. i have
thought if you drown your dawn. you. will. my night of
bliss. still.

i think of stars. i think me stars. i teach my eyes
to twinkle. i will light your skin and

if you fall on me like darkness tomorrow
i will not be shy to shine you through. you fall
on me. my twinkle dies.

i recite your love again. each line tastes like
sweet milk. moon.

i think of the moon. I think me moon. i teach my tongue
the milk of the moon. i will roll into your skin and

if you fall on me like darkness tomorrow
i will be strong the eclipse through. you fall
on me. i roll into your skin.

you choke me. the smoke of your darkness. till
i curve into a sickle

of shame.

the stars fall from your skin. like

goodbyes. i won’t be here tomorrow.
