Daily missive for Wednesday the 17th of May.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Wednesday the 17th of May.

I wish you were here
To see this
Nothing spectacular
No flaming sunset
Or wild geese flying
In a Vee shape overhead
A sky cobwebbed with
Fiery vapour trails
And mysterious depths
But just another day
With a small rabbit
Jumping away
From a startled Spaniel
On a long lead
A Red Kite
By the intervention
As a Muntjack deer shivers
In the shadows
Afraid to move
Wary of every footfall.
The scolding of Mother Mallard
As wayward chicks
Drift perilously close to
The edge of the weir
Her loud honking
Imploring them to steer clear
It is a long way down
As vertical white water
Bubbles and churns
What a sight Niagara must be.
We never did get there
Or to the Grand Canyon
Fly over the Himalaya’s
Walk the wilderness ways
Visit indigenous natives
In the Amazon basin
See Machu Picchu
Out of the rainy season
Ride out a storm
On a tea clipper
Chase the white caps
Around the Horn
See a spouting geyser
Or pass a banana to an ape
But oh my how
Right now
I so do wish you were here.
