pride~by Amber Folkner

pride

hidden like the old piece of candy that falls behind the couch,
and sits there for weeks until it is finally discovered in the midst of searching for spare change
dull like the lifeless basement piled high with old memories and antiques
scarred like the girl in the mirror who cannot accept what she sees
nobody is watching
nobody cares
nobody is concerned
trapped in seclusion
facing life’s complications alone,
terrified
no one can save you,
but you
beaten and battered
alive and well
you are perfect
you survived
you never gave up
beautiful warrior
powerful woman
strength is overwhelming you
wear your wounds like a fashion statement
break free
love who you are
love what you see
