Bushbury Crofts~by Patrick Kevin O’Shea

Bushbury Crofts

Image may contain: one or more people, people standing and indoor

My town of birth
A long time ago
My mind unearths
Our council house
In Cromwell Road
My loving family
Insde sixties abode
Last night’s paper
Spread out , held fast
Across old hearth
For flames to blast
Coal lit fire
Alive in stack
Our only heat
Fire spitting back
Toast on fork
With corners black
Melting butter
Hot knife on track
“Shut that door” !!
“To stop the draft ”
The big man spoke
Back home from graft
Window pains
Inside ice on show
Swirling patterns
That ebb an flow
Black and white TV
With tiny screen
Two channel’s only
Within that scene
Hot water bottles
Old coats on beds
Mist from breath
Cold nights ahead
Pointing fingures
Through Beady eyes
Me and my brothers
With laughing cries
Smoke outside
From chimney pots
Above our home
In Bushbury Crofts
