Daily missive for Monday the 12th of June.~ Moving home. ~ by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Monday the 12th of June.
Moving home.

I feel the heat
Of your breath
On my neck
Carried in the
Kiss of a warm sun
As the birch trees move
In unison
They swish
With a slap of sailcloth
The decking smells of cedar
And yacht varnish.
I am carried
Across the ocean
Aboard a ship-rigged
Three-masted sloop
Bound for the mysterious east
When spices and silks
Were something to die for.
This garden is filled
With old world exotica
Chinese subtlety
African violets
A Frangipani curious
About its place here
On this land locked oasis.
The sky is wide
All things are possible
But in a changing world
Is paradise lost
If left untended.
Dependency is a burden
To the frustrated traveller
Old pots can be jettisoned
Thrown overboard
In a clean sweep
Decks can be cleared
Too easily
With a new broom
What a tragedy that would be.
Time for mutiny
And re-homing
A task worth
The undertaking
Find safe haven
For this historic cargo
In real time
Before final embarkation.
