Daily missive for Tuesday the 27th of June.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Tuesday the 27th of June.

There were rabbits today
Frolicking
Upon the river bank
Crows flew
They chattered
With unknown intent
The louder they cried
The closer they came
To a formation
A rabbit died
Roadkill
On a footpath.
Sadness is no disgrace
Eyes may weep
In the sweep over
The hedgerow
Beauty so closely
Resembling life
Death never too distant.
As crows mock
In murderous clamour
The trees
Bow in supplication
Broken limbs
Brush the slow waters
As the river mumbles
A sad song.
Nothing is changed
Everything is different
Listen to the words
They are hushed.
Brook no tears
For the fallen
The crows know
Too well
How easy
The final cut can be
Watch their flight
It lends a strange
Cacophonous delight
To melancholy.
