Daily missive breaks into the weekend for Sunday the 9th of July.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive breaks into the weekend for Sunday the 9th of July.

It looks the same
At first glance
Intensely blue
Plainly empty of
Even the smallest cloud
Uniformly washed across
The horizon
Fading to a pale grey above the
Cotswold Hills
But it is different
The air is dense with
The expectation of rain
Electric avenues
Tickle the hairs
On the back of my neck
There is excitement
Reminiscent of a first kiss
When the whole world waits
Breathless anticipation
A feathering
A flutter of release
An uncontrolled squeal
The view looks the same
But everything changes
Even the trees
Seem unsure
Barely moving
The air is molasses
A relentless sun
Has accounted for two
Lush weeping willows
Uprooted from
Hot dry soil
Crashing in sadness
Down into the cold wet
Incessant tug of the river
With only just enough
Space left
For a narrow boat
Fallen leaves still float
In the afternoon
And it looks beautiful
In naked sunshine
Ducks quacking
Canoeists paddling
Children diving into the lock
Swimming in safety
Living the day
For the first time
It may look the same
As it did yesterday
But everything changes
Even the faces
And the swans have flown.
