Daily missive for Monday the 10th of July.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Monday the 10th of July.

A piece of paper
Your handwriting
With a pin number.
Bank details
Low interest loans
And pension plans.
Old insurance certificates
Death benefits
A note to the kids
A book you might buy.
How have they survived so long
In a throwaway society.
Why do they remain
When you don’t
They just have to go.
It isn’t you
I am about to throw
But a till receipt from
Ten years ago
A jeweller’s
A watch you bought
For my birthday.
I lost it last year
When I was broken.
It was a minor sadness
Some things just disappear
Whilst other things
Stick like glue.
Why does it feel so bad
It is not a betrayal
It just seems that way.
Everything I find
Which I now don’t need
Is another step further from you
Surely a measured clear out
Can only be a good thing
A psychological
Health benefit.
Then why does the hurt
Cut so deeply
It is almost too much
To let go of a doctor’s letter
A two line memo
Or an appointment card.
The grieving is easy
It is the living
I find
Is too hard.
