Daily missive for Wednesday the 19th of July.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Wednesday the 19th of July.

I saw starlight
In your eyes.
They sparkled
Even beneath the covers
When we were alone
In the dark
Sleeping under an open sky
Waiting for magic.
I saw a shooting star
Reflected back
From you to me
It pierced my heart.
I feel it there now
Even in daylight.
It is a pulsar
Beating in time
With arrhythmic
Infrequency.
Both hearts stop
Together
The restart
A delicate reluctance
To engage
A fear part frozen
The glittered shard
Will detach.
But such a light
Will never be extinguished
It is more than
The blink of an eye.
A jagged splinter
That has rent
An eternal swathe
Of stardust
Across the midnight sky.
I would still
Upon such beauty gaze
As once was ours
And through
A wondrous cosmic haze
Still see you
In the mystery
And glory of its
Immortal majesty.
