Dysentry In The Desert~by Neil Perry

Dysentry In The Desert

The chain-mail that they had on
Grew hot below the scorch
Of burning sun, boiling men –
Unable to move an inch:

In the glaring desert
Vultures hovered for food,
While men died struck with thirst –
Despairing a mad crusade;

Although some prayed to Christ
As thieves upon their cross,
Most knew that they were lost
And wallowed in their mess.
