Chilling Out~by Neil Perry

Chilling Out

Laying on the grass
Looking at the sky,
Apples rise above me –
Heavens where I lie,

With a blackbird singing
Nearby in a tree,
Nothing seems to matter,
Nothing bothers me,

The combine in the distance
Is cutting golden corn,
While I lay in the orchard
Happy on my own,

The day is full of promise,
My heart has been set free
From all the things that clutter –
Now nothing bothers me;

I listen to a trickle
Of water from a brook,
Before I roll back over
To read my open book.
