Daily missive breaks into the weekend for Saturday the 19th of August.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive breaks into the weekend for Saturday the 19th of August.

We construct
Our lives
From make believe
Regenerated as
Memoirs
Internal anecdotes.
What we see has
Already happened
What we hear has
Already been said
What we do
Re-processed before
It was ever noticed.
It is more than
A metaphor
Or a philosophical exchange
It is the nature
Of existence
To be stuck
In the past.
We never arrive
Before we get there
There is no future
Or even a now
Only a moment
Is it flashes by.
A stimulus
For the senses
To fire and discharge
Events are imprinted
Recorded and recalled
Marginally delayed
Everything we see
Has been seen
Whatever we hear
Has already been said.
What we do
Has been done before
It was ever noted
And still we are surprised
As if everything we see
Is for the first time.
It keeps us safe
From the shadows
Of interpretation
If in all good conscience
We believe
Our constructions
Though comforting
And familiar
Are newly built.
