Shedding~by Mary Gosling

Shedding

Image may contain: 1 person, text

You’d think I hate my colour,
you presume,
shame eats away my night,
you and yours “know” my reactions,
are but a beast’s instinctive fright,
yet,
here I am facing you all,
in honesty and reason,
standing,
after the mighty fall,
at the change of season,
saying “watch me cut
my every tie, to past mistakes
galore,
watch me outgrow and throw off my skin,
made dirty in your evermore..”
Watch me, for a while, then go..
Watch me,
uninvited to my show.
And if you were to come my way,
tomorrow or some other day,
when my lonesome, bloodthirsty birth,
is but a healed wound on Mother Earth,
know that I will be one blank slate,
I won’t speak names,
I’ve cleaned my plate,
singing,
and yes…
that tune will ring a bell,
but one that you lot cannot tell..
