Daily missive for Monday the 11th of September.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Monday the 11th of September.

Who will kiss my
Knitted brow
Count the freckles
And worry lines
In the long night
As the world sleeps.
Lovers lie entwined
An unmade bed
Ruffled in passion
Barely covering their
Resting bodies
The sweat drying on
Salted skin.
Who will hold me
As evening stars shine
High in a vacant sky
Its allegory
Lost in the telling
Its empty promise
No nearer
To fulfilment.
Who will sing
Will it be you I hear
When darkness comes.
Will I long
For your ministrations
When my tired body
Rebels
Against indignity.
Will I rest in your arms
Be comforted
By a touch
I remember so well
Fears eased
By a soothing word.
Or will I lie
Laboured and alone
Missing you
Waiting and hoping
Even as the long night
Falls.
