Daily missive for Thursday the 14th of September.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Thursday the 14th of September.

Laugh
Even as you cry
Be happy
Even as daylight fades
The door closes
The bus leaves
And the rain falls
On a bare head
With no cover
Other than a summer hat
The umbrella in the hall stand
A wrecking wind
No key
Homeless
Helplessly waiting
For rescue.
How did it come to pass
This inter-dependence.
Self-reliance
Is an illusion
We deny
Until forgetfulness
Falls upon us.
Laugh
Even as you falter
Take heart
Even as the grip
On life weakens
As fingers curl
Cans are anathema
Vacuum packs
Take the breath away
Handles refuse to turn
Doors will not budge
Someone is always
Quick to judge.
Embarrassment is
A poverty of riches
And is ever present.
It becomes easier
To stay at home
Undressed
Unwashed
Unready for anything
Other than
The unlikelihood of choice.
Laugh in silence
A lost voice
Swallowed in retrospect.
Laugh
Be happy
This is life
Live it
Enjoy it
When you can
Regret is a disease
There is no cure
And tears are not enough.
