black gold~by Prince Ibekwe

black gold

Image may contain: one or more people, people standing and outdoor

in the rocky hills
of the swampy
city of sweat
they have found
black gold
precious yet evil
degrades and erodes
the earth
breeds hate and contempt
in the hands of the strong
it divides the tribes
filling our hungry
mouth with stones
but feeds the few stupendously
boots have beseeched the land
they come to pilfer our black oil
to plunder the fowl and her chicks

this oil has fetched wealth
it has brought poverty
it has brought joy
yet slaughter
millions in greed
and avaritia
the oil has poisoned
our ground and killed
our waters

we seek redemption
on the facade of
men who have a
slippery affinity
with the truth
