Ghostship~by Lynn Elliott

A pristine ship
Out on the bay
On sparkling water
On a perfect day

The ships circle each other
In a beautiful dance
On the passive cool water
The stuff of romance

But climb aboard then you will see
That nothing’s as it seems to be
The mast is in tatters
The planks disrepair
With no sparkling water to be found anywhere

The ghostships circle
They’re barely afloat
A dance of the dying
They carry too much

Too much heartache
Too much pain
Trying to find
The right coarse once again

The moans of the dying
Their siren song
Their coarse predetermined
Sealed fate all along

But I’m afraid I’d be remiss
To let the story end like this
The water sparkles
The ship’s pristine
I’m afraid the ghost resides in me…
