“Definition”~by Michael Graves

“Definition”

Image may contain: cloud, sky, tree, outdoor, nature and water

It’s not who you claim to be that counts.
The surface of the lake mirrors the sky.
Nothing more.
It holds no clouds. No sun.
Only borrowed reflection.

No transgression escapes
without consequence.
And omission, though unfelt at first, like
a razor, cuts deepest.

The warm, willing love
left behind.
The gift, selected with care
and never delivered.
The act of kindness
delayed until too late.
The wrong, witnessed
and left unopposed.

Your actions define you.
Nothing else.

The unwritten is never seen.
The unspoken, never heard.

Your actions form the poetry
or the cliche
that is your life.

Sonnet
Novel
Epithet
Graffiti.

Edit.

Or not.

It’s your life.
