Daily missive for Monday the 8th of January.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Monday the 8th of January.

Deep down inside
At the heart of broken things
Is a sticking plaster
Pulling the edges together
A single silken strand
A spider web
As a suture
Taking the weight
Brushwood and slurry
Holding back the tide
Bait your breath
Wait a little longer
Embrace delay
With gratification
A slight dizziness
A modicum of
Light headed euphoria
Can set the scales
Teetering
A fine balance
To strike
Between a clear head
And a dense fog
Another day
At the coal face
Brush the monkey
From your back
Set the rabid dog free
Paint it black
Before it sinks its teeth
Into your soul
If you wait it will
Gnaw through
The elastic band
Holding the two
Halves together
Tip the sand
From out of the timer
Gauge the moment
For yourself and reset
Once repairs
Are properly made
Deep in the heart
Of broken things
Even the highest tide
Will be turned
Maybe all will subside
Before the last
Remaining bridge
Is burned.
