MY FAVOURITE SPOTS~by Jyotirmaya Thakur

As a little girl when I had to hide,
There were many places to abide,
In guest room behind glass doors that slide,
The big cupboards with doors very wide,
Under the dining table where it was warmly mild.

In the orchard on top of a mango tree,
Watching the sky as far as I could see,
I felt one with the birds flying free,
I loved the butterflies, dragonflies and bees,
In winter the muddy holes water would freeze.

I loved my walks in the shallow stream,
The small brook that moved like frothy cream,
The shrubs that grew wild and needed a trim,
Breaking dry twigs or low branches to swing,
Seasonal fruits orchard fulfilled sweet tooth dream.

The railway tracks had a mystic fascination,
A bohemian trail of adventurous sedation,
Background of wild and untamed children,
Unconquered jungle of untold experience.
Unrestrained bouts of laughter a real sensation.

In morning diving in the clear river was thrill ,
Running fast in the harvested fields near the mill,
Fishing in the monsoon to get the biggest kill,
Flying after dropping kites was breathtaking drill.
Floating with the breeze to the top of the hill.

At twilight when villagers crops surrendered,
Under ancient bunyan tree old citizens gathered,
Children were free again to scatter,
Animals milked and tied for dinner later ,
Before sunset everyone was home, safety mattered.
