Departures
“Moving On” by Lesley Oldaker
in the mutual leaving
no words need explain
past is past
time belonging to then
left behind by the strides
of articulate feet
exhibits of motion
deliberate statements
aloud with mute signals
walkaway sentiments
plainly declaring
the choice to forget
what had been
continuity lapsed
disaffection come clear
shame and sorrow
abandoned numb
orphaned emotions
whose parents
have taken their exits
no longer draw breaths
from relationship
run to conclusion
horizons lay open
to separate directions
cold futures uncertain
stark in their beckoning
weightless of
anger and animus
jettisoned into the wake
of disunion of hearts
moving on
