Spring Concert
“Echinops & Peepers #2” by Natalie Wargin
tiny frogs of the moon
gather in dusk-song
alive vernal marshes
give trilling crescendos
of amorous urgency
audible clusters of
sparkling bell sounds
lifted on silvery air
rising up through the
chaperone shadows
of trees keeping watch
over choirs of boys
pitching high chorus calls
to expectant young girls
in a seasonal ritual
broader more common
than any embraced
by one species and
older than time
