LOVE TOKEN

You were too scared
To accept,
You were too afraid,
To commit;
But something tells me,
You’re not a hypocrite.
Much more than a soulmate,
I was to you,
You had once said;
Was it
The reason why,
You lacked the courage,
To reject?
Did I really
Strike a chord within you?
Did you actually
Peer into my eyes?
Were all those beautiful words,
You spoke in the past,
All pretence,all lies?

It was once
A gift from you,
Now it is a burden;
But still I trudge along,
Carrying it,
Torn and faded pieces,
Of that love token –
Within my fragile heart,
Which is but,
Bruised and broken.
