“For the Glory of Rome” by Dusan Markovic

swing me toward the light
Caesar’s very own sun
turn my wounds to the warmth
surely someone surviving
this battle will note
I am covered with glory
the good blood of empire
anoints me in my dying
my only regret to be buried
so far from my vineyard
let my grave mark forever
this desolate reach by the
eagles of legions who soar
casting shadows of civilization
