Daily missive for Thursday the 13th of September.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Thursday the 13th of September.

Everything hangs loosely
Around the idea
Of a good life
Throw off the mantle
It barely covers
The underside
Where shadows grow
More defined
Waiting for an opportunity
To envelop the unwary
Engulf the heavy of heart
Deep in the recesses
Beyond the beginning
Closer to the end
Where wishful things
Have never been
The wild dog waits
Straining at the leash
For its release
In repose
It will drape across
Your shoulders
An evil fox stole
A glassy eyed stare
The form
Of its assumption
Will change
With any altercation
It always knows
The right time
To defend
Itself from strangers
Should you try
The limp shape
Which hangs as
A dead weight
Will devour
Your wanton soul
The old dog is carrion
With second sight
Subject to alteration
It will corrupt you
Through and through
Unless you are raised
Higher than the suffocation
Of faint praise
Break out
Take flight
Engage in the fight.
