Daily missive for Friday the 12th of October.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Friday the 12th of October.

Pour me a drink
It is the worst night
Of a long hard winter
A terrible storm
Endless in its persuasion
Relentless in pursuit
Of a release
Caught whistling in the dark
Squeezed between
A roll top
And a honky tonk
With no memory
Of the journey
It will never blow out
The window is closed
To the outside
The surface
Only skin deep
Hold a mirror
To my face
If there is condensation
Then I am breathing
On reflection
There is no easy way
To become untangled
The wind too wild
Even my hair is untamed
I am thrown
Tossed by a power
Greater than I will ever be
Still I stand
Puny and punch drunk
Rolling a little
Swaying in the isles
Resisting
Every gust
Feathering in a tempest
I have no way of knowing
When it will end
Blind-eyed
Torn by degrees
Destruction
Has become me
Though
Still, I stand.
