ABSENCE~by Saroj K Padhi

Image may contain: one or more people, people standing, people walking, ocean, shoes, beach, outdoor and water

The agony of your absence settles down
like specks of dust
inside the reddish eye of a dying dusk,
to become an epic in my life
that I fail to write in words to survive;

though each moment becomes an elegy
clothed in silence of your parted lips that tremble
in a vague, vacant excitement
unable to close me in;
see how I bleed like a setting Sun
with desires buried under a lone coffin !

How oft’ I console myself with the self-made story
of your imagined coming back
to the monuments that we had raised
in bodies’ of excited dust
only to wail now like ancient ruins,
where past indistinctly whispers to the December wind
about the cruelty of love, to tall, drooping pines;

and repeats the story of our last afternoon meet
clothed in memories’ stifled lust
when our hearts melted under parting’s seething heat !!
