A SEARCH~by Saroj K Padhi

Where is the fire in your eyes
that burnt my school day virtues into ashes
initiating me to guilty pleasures in light doses
that slowly grew to be youth’s delicious dishes?

Where is that tenor in your voice
that held the key to joys from songs of secret birds
pouring out from the corner of my shy heart
when your presence dictated the select words?

Where is that longing in your words
that changed the hue of the sky, the colour of my dreams,
made me so secretly and so sweetly smart
with their images sticking out at the end and the start?

Banished from your eyes, stars tuck into the corner
of a dark alley where we fight our middle class battle
in their dim light when your looks smoulder dreams,
words clank thro’ skeletons and seekings turn into screams !
