Daily missive for Thursday the 3rd of January.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Thursday the 3rd of January.

There are a more
Than enough reasons
Sometimes they are
Slap you in the face obvious
A clock watched
Will not move
A kettle never boil
A night bus never come
Until you leave the stop
Of course they do
It is the waiting without purpose
That lingers
Too much time
Twiddling idle fingers
Looking at the obscure
How does a dog know
To stand by the door
Fifteen minutes before
He hears the car
Ears twitching
Tail wagging
Excited by something
That only he knows
Until the key is scraping
In the lock
Why does a clock
Try to keep ticking
Repeatedly sticking
At the same spot
The battery always dies
At twenty to five
Of course that might not be true
Between me and you
There are no real facts
Just an abundance of reasons
Sprinkled liberally
Over one of the few truths
We have yet to prove
Are just a loose connection
Of the obscure
Until we are sure
Of extant circumstance
We exist as a series
Of links
A chain of endless possibility
We fail to see
And yet are tied
To a belief in a prevailing system
Of self determination
When the only thing we know
For sure
Is that reason
Often flies
In the face of the obvious
And may endure
As an abstract concept
A precept
Hidden, as a rule
In the general meaning
Of obscure.
