Aftertaste of Helen*~by Constancio Sulapas Asumen Jr

(Opus363 ~> Aftertaste of Helen)
(1)
Seven times in one night, sets a lifetime
Peak for me. In and of itself remains
One of the hallmarks of unvetted prime
Spanning a manifold of vague domains
That history ever seldom maintains:
Alas! Irrational exuberance
Paid for the wages of extravagance!
(2)
Strolling on the bank of Kamo River**,
The most popular dating promenade,
We both wished the night could last forever;
As we paused to toss off our masquerade,
With our embrace love played our serenade:
The burden of filling the in-between
Left unspoken, yet never forgotten!
(3)
The myriad questions which were never asked,
Or asked more often yet left unanswered,
Seldom reveal the answers half unmasked
As guilt pervades the atmosphere of weird
Like mute confessions gnawing to be heard:
The dulcet tunes of furtive lullabies
Succumb too soon to autumn of good byes!

*Helen was earlier delved into in a narrative published hereabouts ~> https://allpoetry.com/column/12180299-Blissful-Serendipity-by-Ace-Lilacs. Hook image (Goddess4Spring.jpg), sequestered uncaptioned, from the Pinterest Goddess cyber collection reached my email inbox by gratis subscription. **Kamo River traverses the city of Kyoto, effectively delineating the industrial district from the night-life districts, making its banks a popular though little publicized tourist attraction.
