an EMT~by Livingston Rossmoor

an EMT
by Livingston Rossmoor

every minute counts
twenty four hours a day,
on call at all times
everyone knows my number
split second can change a life

the rescue is near
siren wails, traffic is clear
the world is standstill
for a moment, stop and yield
hope, despair blare in the air

the young think it’s loud
the old know it could be him
the rush in silence
an alert demands focus
the life and death, I witness
