REMEMBERING AN ASHTRAY ~by Bipul Kalita

REMEMBERING AN ASHTRAY
-******************************

Remembering an ashtray
left behind
I crawl back to peep
into dusty past
knowing how futile it is

I left it to avoid smogs
in my green cooler
you snatched it
to defeat my anger
for cheaters
you snatched my fingers
to write faith in your eyes

Time changes
to change falsehood
inviting truth
and curses scattered
facts of innocence
and brushes shattered
ways of utterance

I can’t advocate for something
that scorches broken hearts
I can’t advocate for something
that spoils the blue of the sky

Burnt smiles condemn
daydreamers
ashen words of love encourage
negative paintings of fire
and air of the crammers
