” GRANDPA’S LITTLE GIRL ” ~by Martin Gedge

POEM ” GRANDPA’S LITTLE GIRL ” by martin gedge

Christmas cheer but once a year

in bundles wrapped so bright

of memories that stay with me

that gets me through each night

the precious gifts the chin up lifts

her warm and gentle smile

the way she snorts at all my jokes

those times we talked a while

her frosty face her style and grace

with carefree innocence

a dance on air that subtle stare

a laugh of ignorance

the tears that fell but never dwell

to switch the other cheek

the peek a boo the I love you

and the games of hide and seek

to sit right there my swivel chair

each story says goodnight

and off to bed to kiss her head

and slowly fade the light

it stays in view like picture glue

as time gets old and grey

but hopes in time that down the line

I’d see again some day

to reminisce the times we miss

and enjoy the simple ride

to sit and spell and live to tell

what on the other side….
