Daily missive breaks into the weekend for Saturday the 1st of June.~ Melbourne Sandbar.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive breaks into the weekend for Saturday the 1st of June.
Melbourne Sandbar.

Lean into the wind
It is compensation
For listening to both sides
Wild in the blowing
Out from the sea
Nothing really matters
Behind glass
But the high tide
Swamps over
The beach volleyball courts
With minimal empathy
For the depth of its infraction
No raising Cain
Can ever be the same
Or as powerful
As the shift in seasons
The coffee smells different
On a cold day
Flotsam on a beach
Like a broken torso
Pulling me back
To the danger
Of forgetfulness
When young men
Died for the hubris
Of devils in darkened rooms
Drinking brandy
Smoking fat cigars
Counting success
In feet and inches
Not in numbers lost
Clouds of angels pass
Swept away with a brushstroke
Coffee mornings
In a rainstorm
Were never quite as good
Before the flood
The weather changes
So abruptly
Even as I pause to drink
There is a breakthrough
Water laps against the window
High tides and electricity
A dangerous overflow
Is it safe to stay
For one more
Round of conversation
Or should we go?
