Confetti

They are finally married and is everybody ready?
Wait till they are out of church, then bombard them with confetti.
These brightly bits of colored paper that everybody throws.
Confetti? Where did it come from? Does anybody know?
I did a little research and this is what I found.
The simple word confetti functions as a noun.
And through all the reading I still cannot find where it originates.
The furthest I could come up with was the 14th century for heaven sake.
From the word comfit meaning coated and preserved.
Like the bond of marriage and the oath that we just heard.
From Middle English and Middle French confire to prepare.
And the origin of Latin the word is conficere.
Then I had to laugh when I read what Irish confetti meant.
It means a rock or brick used as a missile to be sent.
So when you throw confetti you will know the word.
It says that you want their marriage sugar coated and preserved.
