Daily missive for Monday the 25th of November.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Monday the 25th of November.

Am I to apologise
For closing doors and windows
It is a sensible precaution
As energy seeps out
Of every poorly fitting joint
Escaping into the cold night air
It is difficult to maintain
When the wind rattles
At the door knob
Trying to shake the whole house down
Opening a window then
Would rip off the roof
What of the insistent beating
Of a wretched blackbird
Its beak battering against the glass
What does it intend
Fluttering back and forth
There is no temptation
To let it in
As to wreak a chaotic
Trail of destruction
Across a quiet room
Perhaps you would bid me leave
This paradise
Step out into the wild
To gain a different perspective
Of the drama
Venturing further afield
Than for many a year
The tranquility of home
Haven though it may be
Not enough
In itself to be of comfort
Perhaps you should join me
Just for a moment
Come sit in my place
By the fire
So that you might see
The simplicity of my reasoning
The squall will be weathered
Now it is time for rest
The comfort
Of a sheltered harbour,
To sally forth
And walk in the storm
Can wait a while
Perhaps indefinitely.
