Daily missive for Friday the 13th of December.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Friday the 13th of December.

Smoke me out
Hung out, strung out
Burning in charcoal
Dessicated
As a Lindisfarne Kipper
The whole world
Is on fire
Even the ice burns
Fever my brow
With its worry beads
Furrowed into the skin
The rock of ages past
Sharply thrown
Skimmed a lost childhood
Chasing approval
From a sibling
Even as brothers drift
Into separate corners
Fighting was never fair
Blame was never a game
Too much was made
Of difference
Whilst the fire raged
Across the heartlands
Opportunists
Are forever
Washing their hands
In the overflow
From a reservoir of goodwill
Until it all runs dry
Leaving nothing
But a smoulder
Of embers
To whisper campfire stories
Under crowded skies
Of bygone days
Nobody will ever believe
Were innocent
