MAINE

The motto is, “I direct” and
Residents are called Mainers
The nickname is “The Pine tree state.”
All other nicknames are disclaimers.

The French called this land Acadia
Was later changed to Maine.
It’s believed that the English explorers
Had changed it when they came.

The flower is the white pine cone and tassel
The official state bird is the chickadee.
The state’s animal is the moose
And the official insect is the honeybee.

The state’s gemstone is the tourmaline

The white pine is the official state tree.

The official fish is the landlocked salmon

And the state’s fruit is the wild blueberry.

Augusta is the most eastern capital city

The city of Eastport is the most easterly one

And West Quoddy Head in Eastport is mentioned

As the first spot to see the morning sun.

With over 800,000 acres of wilderness

To view all the beauty of natures creation.

The White Mountain National Forest

Is the second most visited in the nation.

The flavor and taste of the lobster
Has won incredible international fame.
Nearly 90% of the nation’s lobster supply
Is caught off the coast of Maine.

With a total of 33,215 square miles,
This is New England’s biggest state.
With 26 state parks, 5,000 streams
And twenty-five hundred lakes!

Two famous authors Longfellow and King
Of their works one would revel.
Mount Katahdin is the state’s highest point
At 5,268 feet above sea level.

Rockafeller, Farnum, King and Dix
Some famous names we can not dismiss
Longfellow, Spencer, Robinson and Stowe
Names from Maine that you might want to know.
