Daily missive for Tuesday the 6th of March.~by Peter Forster

Daily missive for Tuesday the 6th of March.

Does it help
When the dream dies
Doors close
With a final click
Barring entrance
Looking in
Face pressed
Tight against the glass
Misting over from
Laboured breath
Is it any different
On the other side
How will you know
If you belong
When this game
Is played by house rules
Old boys
Sit in fat leather chairs
Breathing rarified air
Holding all the cards
Close to their chests
Placing bets
You will lose
Your nerve
Before the music ends
When all
The seats are taken
The last one standing
Is removed
Your nose
Is permanently glued
To the window
It is always different
On the other side
Swallow your pride
Turn away
That dream is over
Does it help
If you believe
There is reward
In pressing on
It is what they would
Have you all think
It keeps you
On the outside
Looking in
Keeping faith
In a meek inheritance
As the fat of the land
Is drained
With every drink
They have you refill
Say a little prayer
For what good it does
What happens
Should you leave
Or look the other way
Who would be
Hung out to dry
What happens when you die
Does it help
If you believe.
