Winter Walk~by Annie Johnson

Winter Walk

Image may contain: night, sky, tree, outdoor and nature

I walk in the snows of all my yesterdays.
My footsteps break the sound barrier of silence.
My stride is perhaps shorter, than in years past.
My breath is a mist before my face; the distant fog
From years of icy walks gathered to confound me.
I hear my breathing in rhythm with my steps;
More labored than in past energetic years.
The stars are chips of ice pinned against the sky
Trailing the heavens like a nomad’s caravan.
It is cold; there is no wind; silence whispers
Beneath the ear flaps of my hat and under my scarf
And gives me a feeling that I don’t walk alone.
I stop in shadowed wonder and look above me
And know that never once, did I walk alone.
