Engraved~by Faisal Mutari

I was untainted
free like the bird I fly
rising every morning with radience like the sun
my voice echoes with the clarity of a nightingale
my heart was pure and new
before my innocence was killed
by the very me I trusted
I used to be loved, or so I thought
until the walls came crumbling
bruising my name beyond repair
and uprooting the free spirit I had
here in a corner I now sit
and with a filthy soul I have to endure
every brutal outing of the sun
as I yearn for the unpromised penance
from the life I once lived
